Custom home construction

A custom home starts with the site—not a catalog.

Good planning connects the property, the design, the construction requirements, and the way the home needs to work every day.

What “custom” means

A set of connected decisions, not a single floor plan.

A custom home responds to a particular property and household. Orientation, access, drainage, utilities, room relationships, exterior materials, and long-term use can all influence the direction.

The goal is not to make every choice unusual. It is to make the important choices intentional and compatible before they become expensive to change.

Planning guidance

Four questions to resolve before construction.

Use these questions to prepare for an initial conversation about your property and priorities.

  1. What does the property require?

Confirm ownership and access, available utilities, site conditions, applicable restrictions, and any surveys or evaluations needed for informed planning.

  2. What should the home do well?

Identify the spaces, adjacencies, accessibility needs, storage, outdoor connections, and everyday patterns that matter most.

  3. Which design is the starting point?

A custom design or a plan you have permission to use may begin the conversation, but it still needs to be considered in relation to the site and construction requirements.

  4. Which requirements affect scope?

Discuss expected size, major materials, timing constraints, budget parameters, permitting, and decisions that may change feasibility or cost.

The first builder conversation

Bring what you know. Name what you do not.

A productive first conversation does not require a complete drawing set. It does benefit from a clear description of the property, the intended home, and the decisions already made.

Mississippi Gulf Coast

Build for the property in front of you.

Coastal projects can involve site-specific drainage, wind, elevation, soils, access, and permitting considerations. The requirements for a particular property should be confirmed with the appropriate professionals and authorities rather than assumed from a neighboring project.

Discuss a custom home
